There are various reasons why I absolutely adore this photo of Hitch and his wife Carol Blue. Other than the fact that I harbor thoughts of replicating this photo with my future wife when I suffer occasional bouts of vanity, I look at this photo as a two-faced reminder of the complex dynamic between love and the intellect. On bad days when I feel that my natural aversion to consensus and popular opinion puts me at odds even with the people within my very small social circle (thus further slimming down my chances of attracting a potential mate), a glance at this photograph tells me that dissent, a strong conviction and unpopular opinions need not be a problem for romance, and that real love will take the form of someone willing to take a risk and walk through this seemingly impermeable but potentially scathing wall to get to me. On the other hand, days that see me in a sunny disposition usually hear me mentally uttering this statement in my head in one permutation or another: a sharp intellect makes for a sexy specimen of a man.
